Janice was born on May 11, 1948, daughter of the late Mary M. Storino and John C. Parker of Watertown, NY. Janice attended Ilion High School and graduated with her associates degree in travel and tourism from Herkimer County Community College. On July 26, 1969, Janice was united in marriage to her best friend Peter H. "Butch" Caiola at Annunciation Church in Ilion, NY. Befitting her energy and spirit, Janice was always on the move, she loved her days riding a motorcycle and her time driving an "18-wheeler" across the United States. She was also fond of sewing, was an avid reader, but loved most of all surrounding herself with family and loved ones. And still Janice is perhaps best known for the legendary Italian Christmas cookies she baked for family and friends every year. To think of Janice is to recall her infectious laughter, appreciation of and zest for life, and most importantly her endless and selfless acts of love. A mama bear in the highest form of the phrase, Janice was equal parts loyal, protective, and loving; she could let you know in an instant exactly what she was thinking, with a furrowing of her brow or her radiant smile. Janice spent her lifetime caring for and raising many family members; from sisters, her brother, and especially her two grandchildren, Kevin, and Jaylyn. Janice is survived by her former husband and best friend of over 60 years, Peter H. Caiola; their three beautiful children, daughter Jenise Caiola of Los Angeles, CA, daughter Krista Caiola of Herkimer, NY, son Peter Caiola of Los Angeles, CA, and bonus daughter Linda (Vishal) Saugh of Montverde, FL; grandchildren Kira (Robby) Hight of Herkimer, NY, Kevin Gregory of Herkimer, NY, Jaylyn Gregory of Los Angeles, CA, Anthony, Giovanni, and Saraya Saugh of Montverde, FL; great-grandchildren Levi and Lenox Hight of Herkimer, NY; and her feline "fur-baby" of 14 years, Moonie. She is further survived by her sister Joann (Brad) Darrow of Ilion, NY, brother Peter Parker of Clinton, NY, and sister Mary (Karl) Braunlich of Poland, NY; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Janice was predeceased by her sister Nina Marie Parker of Ilion, NY, sister Carla Lawson of Deltona, FL, and brother-in-law Robert Parker of Clinton, NY. Janice's family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation and gratitude to the Reverend Coco Stewart of Agape International Spiritual Center, Beverly Hills, CA; the phenomenal medical staff at the Orlando Regional Medical Center, Orlando, FL and the UCLA Bowyer Oncology Center, Los Angeles, CA; as well as the amazing 230+ family and friends across the United States who have shared encouraging words of support on the "Janice Caiola aka Glammie J!" Facebook page over the course of her two-year journey. In honor of Janice's wishes (and befitting the many people and places she loved and called home), there will be a "Trifecta" of celebrations of life in Herkimer, NY, Orlando, FL, and Los Angeles, CA for family and friends, to be announced at future times and dates. Sister Jane C., RSM (formerly Sister Bernard Mary), IHS 1956, died January 19, 2022 at Saint Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Albany. Born in Ilion, NY, she was the daughter of the late Bernard Leach and Marjorie Ackley Leach. She had been a Sister of Mercy for 65 years. Sister earned a Bachelor's degree from Siena College, Loudonville. She ministered as a teacher at St. Mary's, Oneonta; St. Joseph's, Rensselaer; St. Patrick's, Johnstown; Blessed Sacrament, Albany; St. Agnes, Cohoes; and Waterford Central School. Sister Jane spent several years as school secretary at Holy Cross School, Albany, where she also did outreach work in the parish. Contemplative by nature, Sister Jane was grateful for the opportunity to spend three years at Our Lady of Grace Dominican Monastery in Guilford, Connecticut, living the vowed life according to the monastic tradition. Upon returning to the Albany Diocese, she served as a receptionist at St. Peter's Home Care. Quiet and unassuming, Jane reached out in kindness to the staff; they loved her and appreciated her warm smile and the service she offered them. Sister Jane enjoyed a simple lifestyle; she loved nature, especially birds and plants. She could readily identify multiple species of both and was in her glory when she could spend time at Five Rivers or at the ocean. Reflective of her commitment to protect the environment, she maintained current memberships in the Sierra Club, Earth Justice and Nature Conservancy. Jane was a voracious reader, devouring the printed word from cover to cover, whether newspapers, books on spirituality, history, science fiction or a good novel. She loved to knit and welcomed the dual opportunity to engage in an activity she enjoyed while creating practical gifts to offer to those in need. Sister Jane's final, and perhaps her favorite ministry, was as support staff in the Office of the Registrar at Maria College, Albany. It was a perfect fit, for Sister Jane, for the registrars, and for the students, and she became a loyal friend. Her willingness to manage the office when needed freed the registrars to attend meetings they might otherwise have missed. She was amazingly open to learning new data bases and technology. Although shy and somewhat reticent, Sister Jane had a keen sense of humor which endeared her to others. It was not uncommon for students to stop in at the office not because they had business to take care of with the registrars but simply to visit with Sister Jane. The schedule showed Jane working four mornings a week, but she was flexible enough to add a fifth when needed. When she was no longer able to live independently, Sister Jane graciously accepted that it was time for her to move to the nursing home. Although she herself was a resident, she took it upon herself to watch out for the needs of other residents less able than she, making certain they had received meals and essential services, and inviting them to join with others to watch television or engage in other activities. She had special devotion to the Eucharist and welcomed the opportunity to receive Communion as often as possible. Sister Jane maintained strong bonds with her family, despite the fact that in Sister's later years, most of her relatives lived at a distance. In addition to her parents, Sister Jane was predeceased by her brother Bernard (Reiko) of Buffalo. She is survived by her sister, Mary Lou Hebert (the late Kenneth) of Connecticut; her brother, William (Minyo) of Georgia, and several nieces and nephews as well as by her religious community, the Sisters of Mercy and Mercy Associates. A reception of Sister's body will be held Monday, January 24, 2022 at 9 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Avenue, Albany, followed immediately by a wake. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Masks must be worn and social distancing observed. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush. The Sisters of Mercy wish to express our gratitude to the staff of the Convent of Mercy, Albany, and St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the great tenderness with which they cared for our Sister. Contributions may be made in Sister Jane's memory to the Sisters of Mercy, 634 New Scotland Avenue, Albany, New York 12208. (January 25, 2022)

Robert Morton Conover, IHS 1960, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away, peacefully, at home, on January 15, 2022, surrounded by his children, and listening to big band music. Born January 30, 1942 to David and Marion (Morton) Conover, in Ilion, NY. Bob was raised in the Mohawk/Ilion/Frankfort area. He was a 1960 graduate of Ilion Central High School. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in December of 1960. After finishing his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Bob completed electronic equipment repair school at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS in June 1961. Bob was ultimately stationed in Germany, where he served in the 7030th Combat Support Wing, on special assignment, at the U.S. Army Sembach Airfield, in Bremerhaven. Bob married Linda Kornbrust in 1962. Linda joined Bob in Germany and their first child, Tracy Alane, was born later that year. The family rented rooms, off base, from Herr & Frau Schneider. Bob learned a lot of Deutsch while living with the Schneiders and seemingly never forgot any of it. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Bob went to work for Sperry Rand/Univac, in Ilion and Utica, NY, in electronics and computer programming. He also became a lifetime member of the American Legion, Mohawk chapter. Robert Scott was born in 1967. In 1971, Univac transferred the family to Streamwood, IL. Bob and Linda divorced in 1977. Bob married Linda Elwess, in 1982. Their daughter, Valerie Marie, was born in 1984. In 1989 Univac/Unisys transferred the Conover family to Bluebell, PA and a year later, transferred them again, to Sylvania, OH. Bob retired from Unisys in 2000. Sadly, Linda lost her battle with breast cancer, six months later. Growing up in a musical family, Bob loved everything music and the arts. In high school, he played percussion in the school's Dance Band, Concert Band, and Orchestra, as well as singing in the Choir. While in the Airforce, Bob became a charter member of the Sembach Base Orchestra. During and after high school, Bob and his father participated in the Black Hawks Drum and Bugle Corps of Utica, NY, where Bob was part of the drumline. While living in Illinois, Bob rekindled his love of drum corps, playing with the Chicago Connection, the Spirit of '76 (of Racine, WI) and the Chicago Vanguard. Bob was an accomplished percussionist, but also played the trumpet, for his "own amazement". After moving to Ohio, Bob played tympany/percussion with the JCC Orchestra, the Maumee Community Band, and sang with the Lourdes College Choir, (where Valerie eventually joined him), and its Good Company Ensemble. Later, he sang with the Sylvania Senior Center Choir, and participated in their annual Follies, but, nearest and dearest to his heart, was singing bass with the Toledo Choral Society. Bob's life was filled with good friends, music, and dining at his two favorite places, Classic Cafe and Mayberry Diner. For over 10 years, friends fed him and drove him to restaurants and rehearsals. When COVID took most of that away, he was hit hard by the isolation. During this time, his small circle of close, dedicated friends, who had already adopted him into their families, provided meals, transportation, groceries, companionship – you name it, they were there. They never left him. It was through their dedication, that Bob was able to remain in his home, until the end. Bob's family thanks you all, from the bottom of their hearts. you know who you are. Bob is survived by his Aunt Barb (Morton) Tibbits, brother Gary (Carmon) Conover; his three children, Tracy (Curt) Conover-Beck, Robert S. Conover, and Valerie (Sam) Conover; four grandchildren, Curtis & Daniel Beck, Shelby & Ben Conover; and one great granddaughter Calianna Miles. Viewing will be Sunday, January 23rd from 2 to 6 p.m. with a memorial service at 6:00 p.m., at Reeb Funeral Home, Sylvania, OH. The Memorial service will be live streamed on Reeb's Facebook page.
