Authorities are still trying to determine who gunned down a former Herkimer County woman in her car last weekend in Maryland.

A reward of up to $2,000 has been offered by the Howard County Police Department for any information in connection to the May 4 shooting death of 47-year-old Deborah Massocco Castellano, formerly of Herkimer.

At about 9 a.m. last Saturday, Castellano's repeatedly shot body was found in a vehicle in the parking lot outside an apartment complex in Columbia, MD, about 20 miles from Baltimore, police said.

Castellano, a mother of two children who live in Mohawk, recently moved to Maryland, where she worked as a gaming supervisor with Maryland Live Casino in Columbia, according to her obituary. Before that, she had worked for many years also as a gaming supervisor at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona.

On Wednesday, Howard County police did not say whether they are aware of any motive or suspects in Castellano’s death.

Castellano graduated from Ilion High School in 1983. She attended Herkimer County Community College and Le Moyne College, where she graduated as a paralegal in 1986.

According to her obituary, Castellano loved to bake and was known as “Mama Deb” to those who enjoyed her baked goods.

Castellano’s funeral will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday morning from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home in Herkimer, followed at 9:30 a.m. with a funeral Mass at Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church.
