What Do You Think?

Pride

Pride, be it on the field or in the organization, is an intangible which is harder than ever to define. What does pride mean? GAME PLAN went to Ilion High School for some answers.

JOHN SCOTT - Senior
Three years on the Volleyball team.
"I really enjoy volleyball, so mostly I play for fun. I suppose there is a special kind of pride in playing on a good team in a game not many people play well."

DAN SMITH - Junior.
Quarterback on football team, varsity baseball, varsity basketball.
"I feel proud when the work put in during practice pays off with a win, especially in football. It's a good feeling to be able to say. 'Ilion won'."

CHRISTINE LESKOVEC - Junior.
Three years of track and cross-country.
"I always try to do my best. I don't feel proud when I don't play up to my ability. I try to help my teammates feel proud enough to do their best too."

SCOTT FLETCHER - Senior,
Two years 138-pound wrestler, four years.
"You have to have it. Any high school team must have it to win. The object should be to make a name for the school and not yourself."

MIKE SKINNER - Basketball coach, assistant coach football and track. Five-years at Ilion.
"You have to have it. Any high school team must have it to win. The object should be to make a "Playing to the best of your ability and not being an embarrassment to yourself is the best way to show pride."
