Ilion Family To Live In Scotland ILION - An Ilion High School Latin teacher and her family will be boarding a luxury ocean liner this summer for a trip to Scotland, but it is more than just a visit. Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Smith of 189 S. Fifth Ave., and their son and three daughters will be living for about two years in Livingston. Scotland, where Smith has been named manager of a new Sperry - Rand UNIVAC plant. Smith has already journeyed to the new location to get settled in. The family will follow by boarding the Queen Elizabeth on July 8 for a five days voyage. "We're locking forward to the trip," Mrs. Smith said of her family. "We'll be seeing a new country and feel it will be a good experience." They are waiting until summer so that Mrs. Smith can finish her teaching term, and the rest of the family can finish out the school term. Smith, a mechanical engineer, who has been with UNIVAC since 1951, will supervise, a plant of about 200 employees, the first operated by the company in the United Kingdom. The only other company plant in Europe is in Frankfort, West Germany. The new plant will have a unit records equipment product line, which includes creating punch cards for computers. Officials said the plant will service an increasing market throughout the United Kingdom. Besides Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the family includes Glenn, 21; Marcia. 17; Gail, 14; and Maureen, 9. The family has lived in Ilion since 1953. Mrs. Smith said that Glenn is not expected to accompany the family on the Scotland trip. He will be on a cruise of his own aboard a Navy vessel as part of the Reserve Officers Training Corps program, and will return to RPI as a senior in the fall. Mrs. Smith said the family voted to go via the Queen Elizabeth as "it will be something new" to travel aboard the famous luxury liner.
