Police Report Insufficient Evidence in Rock-Throwing ILION - Henry LaRaia, village attorney, and Sgt. Alfred Seymour, of the Ilion Police Department, last night told the village board that an investigation of a Nov 30 rock throwing incident which injured five Westmoreland Central School pupils has produced insufficient evidence for any arrests. The official report to Mayor James Garnsey indicated that police lack "legal or sufficient evidence" for prosecution involving the incident, which followed a Westmoreland-Ilion high school basketball game in Ilion Central School. Rocks were thrown through windows of a Westmoreland spectator bus as it traveled near the Flat Iron building on Otsego St. injuring five girls. Ilion school officials recently announced that several of the students had come forward to admit participation in the rock throwing. This information was turned over to Ilion police. The police department noted in its report that the investigation will continue the hopes, that more evidence can be gathered or that someone will come through with more information. High School Principal Leo Sammon and Charles Lang, assistant, were commended for their cooperation in the investigation. IN OTHER ACTION last night, the village board Decided to meet with the Ilion Central School Board on Jan 21 if the date is feasible. Two issues are to be discussed. They are the school's bid for the purchase of 14 acres of village owned land on West Street and the C. J. Diss bequest, which now totals $130,000. Set March 5 for the annual election to fill two year trustee posts now held by Harold Riddell and Joseph Kinville. Also set from noon until 9 Feb 16 for registration for the election. Held two public hearings at which no taxpayer appeared and then granted Ilion Urban Renewal Agency permission to "sell" property to Jay's for its department store and to Warren Lennox and Bert Warner for their stores.
