Ilion High Informative - By Mike Braun and Joan Withington Wednesday was a rewarding day for 21 students from Ilion High. That afternoon the induction ceremonies for the National Honor Society were held. The new members are Bonnie Dekin, Janet Keddell, Pat Snyder, Jeff Whittemore, Kathy Carney, Jerry Ferguson, Cleo Barton, Alec Sternberg, Beverly Owen, Ken Wood, Frances DeLong, Nancy Whitney, Richard Reynolds, Peg Getman, Margaret Slocum, Jim Strife, Barb Keddell, Mary Carney, Pat Cirillo, Joyce Monteau, and Joan Withington. Joseph Baker, for whom the local chapter was named, and George Anderson, superintendent of schools, were speakers for the occasion. After the induction, Mr. Sammon, our principal, named the top ten scholars form the "Class of 1966." Ranking first in a class of 173, with an average of 95.225 is James Patrei. The salutatorian with an average of 94.918 is Janet Keddell. Ranking three through ten respectively are: Carla Braun, Larry Hollar, Gert Lucey, Sharon Dibble, Betsy Morris, Alec Sternberg, Pat Snyder and Bev Owen. Special recognition went this week to Sharon Dibble, who was chosen as student of the week. Sharon has been a leader in every way possible. A few of her many activities are; president of her junior class; secretary, vice-president and president of National Junior Honor Society; member of the Senior National Honor Society; J.V. and Varsity cheerleader; an active member in Student Council; president of Beta Ch Rho Sorority. Sharon also attends Colgate Seminar and was chosen for the D.A.R. award for outstanding citizenship. She will attend St. Lawrence University. Thursday night two bus loads of students went to M.V.C.C. to hear author Vance Packard, who soke on "America in Upheaval". His works include, "The Pyramid Workers", "The Status eekers", "The Hidden Persuaders", and "The Waste Makers." On Tuesday night, another meeting of the valley student council presidents was held at Ilion to discuss further plans for the computer dance to be held May 7. It was decided that the Boss 5" from Ilion and the "Midnighters" from Frankfort will provide music from 8 to 12. Tickets will go on sale next week and only 150 will be sold in each school. They will be on a first come first serve basis.
