Ilion High Informative By Bill Cornell - October 26, 1963 Ilion High is very proud of its six seniors who have received Letters of Commendation for outstanding performance in the National Merit Scholarships qualifying test. Steve Getman, Don Keddell, Carol Klippel, Paul Morris, Tom Morris and Stephanie Neal earned this award. This is the largest number of seniors from Ilion to win such letters. Elaine Mutchler, Janet Goldin and Pam Dauton are chairmen of the annual Senior Class card sale. A quota of $1,500 has been set to be reached by the end of the sale Oct. 31. The Latin Club has elected new officers tor the school year. Joanne Urtz is president; Bill Cornell, vice president; Bridget Carney, secretary; Mary Jean McGrath, treasurer. Pam Murray heads the French Club this year. Sue Getman will serve as vice-president; Melody Coquin, secretary - treasurer; Sharon Bradle, parliamentarian; Linda Brown, Student Council representative. The All-State Sectional Music Festival will be in Frankfort Nov. 15-16. The Orpheus Choir will participate in the event. Bill Miles, Bill Davis, Larry Pasek, Russell Wagner, Boh Bluett will attend representing the band. Lesa Siver, Judy Horwood, Lee Fuller, Carla Braun, Larry Hollar and Steve Price will represent the orchestra. Today Ilion High harriers compete against Norwich, Frankfort, Oneonta and Herkimer at Oneonta. Last Friday the squad captured the Vernon - Verona - Sherrill invitation team trophy. Terry Sweeney, Jack Sweeney, Paul Dodge, all of Ilion, broke the record for the course. The team raced at Watertown Oct. 11, capturing that trophy too. The Ilion Golden Bombers dropped two close decisions to Frankfort and Carthage in last week's games. The Carthage Central School squad downed Ilion Saturday at home by a 156 score. The Frankfort Maroon Knights defeated the Ilion squad at Frankfort 14-6. The first place Mohawk Mohicans meet the Golden Bombers here today in one of Ilion's most important games of the season. The Ilion Freshmen football team plays Mohawk today, hoping to add another victory to their 2-2 record. Rome downed the Freshman 6-0 last Saturday. On Oct. 11 and 12 the team split, one half losing to Frankfort 21-6 while the other half defeated West Canada 20-6. West Canada whipped the Junior Variety squad 19-0 Oct. 16. Last Monday, Herkimer lost by a 6-0 score to the Ilion Jayvees. The squad's record stands at 3-2.
