1929 Graduate Speaker

Principal speaker was Dr. George Angell, president of the Plattsburgh State Teachers College, and a 1929 graduate of Ilion High School, using as his topic, "Responsibilities of the High School Graduate."

He explained six cardinal principles which every graduate must observe to better his chance of success in the world and to be better accepted in the world:

1. He must have a guiding purpose.

2. He must have faith in the common man.

3. He must develop an ability to control his emotions.

4. He must have the courage and fortitude to take action.

5. He must choose a vocation adaptable to his talents in lieu of following the crowd.

6. He must have and maintain at all times, a sense of humor.

The speaker was introduced by Supt. George Purple. Douglas Miller, Board of Education president, then asked for and received a rising tribute and ovation to Miss Ethel Campbell, retiring North St. School principal, and Joseph Baker, retiring high school principal.
