June Monz, Don Young Follow Footsteps of Older Brothers ILION - Honor students of the 1955 llion High School graduating class were announced yesterday afternoon at a special assembly by Principal Joseph A. Baker. Heading the class of 91 students, one of the largest to graduate from Ilion in recent years, is Miss Joan Monz, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Monz. 38 Second Avenue, while Don Young, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Young, 13 East North Street, is salutatorian. Miss Monz had on average of 94.91 for the four years of high school while Don was close behind with an average of 94.04. Other class leaders and their averages as announced by Mr. Baker are as follows: Patricla MrCormack, 93 21; Julie Lupinski, 91.63; Jon Momberger, 91.19; Curtis Gilbert, 91.81. Gloria Goerger, 90.09; Carol Short, 90.00; Jack Bortel, 89.93, and Eugene Stafford, 88.34. An interesting sidelight is the fact that both the valedictorian and salutatorian had older brothers who also were honor students. Miss Monz has an older brother, Carl, who finished third in his class, and Young's brother, William Young Jr., was salutatorian of his class in 1952. He is now attending Webb Institute of Naval Architecture on Long Island and Don hopes to enroll either there or at RPI. He is third alternate on the list for appointment to West Point. Mr. Baker was high in his praise of the honor students of the class. Joan Monz has been active in the Debate Club, is on the Mirror staff, the Library Club and is in the Senior Play. She plans to go the Mildred Elley Secretarial School in Albany. Don is president of the Senior Class and represented Ilion at Boys State in his Junior Year. He has been a member of the School Senate for three years and is sports editor of the Quill and is on the Mirror Staff.
