Youth Seriously Hurt When Shot by Friend In Hunting Accident

Ilion - William Cave, 11, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Cave, 137 W. Main St., is in serious condition in Ilion Hospital where he was taken shortly after 1 p. m. yesterday suffering from a bullet wound in the left cheek.

According to police, Myron Bouck, 16, North Ilion, accidentally discharged a 22-caliber rifle while attempting to get the safety catch unfastened.

Cave was sitting outside the shack occupied by the boys on Oak Hill, with another youth. The bullet entered Cave's cheek after passing through the wall of the shack.

The boy, bleeding profusely from the head, was brought to the hospital in the Ilion ambulance. Dr. C. J. Diss, who took x-rays said the bullet apparently lodged in the boy's neck.

The rifle, made in Germany, was taken to the hill by Victor Elter, 15, with the permission of his foster-father, George D. Cheney, N. Ilion. Cheney told The Telegram the weapon was sent home by his son, Pvt. Arthur Cheney, three or four months ago.

Pvt. Cheney also sent home an Austrian .45 caliber rifle.
