War Calls Fail To Halt Plans of Ilion Grads

Ilion - A majority of the Ilion High School students graduated last month intend to continue their education through business and college courses, despite war inroads on the class, a survey showed today.

The class, which last more boys to the armed forces than any preceding group, has since added others to its service roll. Those already enlisted or on call include:

Army - Marcus Comes, Robert Day, Russell Day, Francis DeCarr, Madison Getman, Myron LeFever, Kenneth Morton, Burrill Fay, John Hilliard.

Many In Navy

Navy - John Braren, Duane Chapin, James Coman, Samuel Costanza, Van Davis, George Koerner, William Owens, Richard Reardon, George Schulz, Guy Snedeker, Paul Bouck, Albert Countryman, Robert Francisco, Theodore Oakes, Sidney Partington, Glenwood Scanlon, Gerry Winsor.

Marines - Richard Ashley, Paul Madigan, Milton Merritt, Coast Guard - John Sorenson: Air Force - Charles Leitz.

Charles Lang and Ronald McLean are candidates for ASEP courses at New York University and Rutgers College, respectively, while Stuart Cramer has enlisted while Stuart Cramer has enlisted in the Merchant Marine.

Although not every graduate was checked, Joan Billington, Lydia Bump, Robert Houghton, Charles Paddock, Barbara Schwartz and Mary Stokes expect to enroll in Syracuse University.

Miss Billington, yearbook editor, intends to continue a journalistic career, while Miss Schwartz was active in drama - music - Press Club work. Miss Stokes, won the DAR good citizenship award.

Mary Horan, class salutatorian, will enter Albany State Teachers College. Another potential teacher is Pauline Thompson who will study at Potsdam.

Others College Bound

Other college-bound graduates are: Jane Fake, Rider; Hugh Griffiths, Union; Audrey Lipp, Keuka; Davis Loftus, Rochester; Margaret Ray, Latin America Institute, New York.

Two nurses are in the offing Louise Leary, who will enter Rochester General Hospital, and Virginia Wood, Faxton Hospital, Utica.

Post graduates returning to school include Charles Allen, Patricia Dunham, Robert Getman and Clare Burdick.

Those steadily employed include Jane Cooper, and the Eckler twins, Shirley and Phyllis, telephone office; Robert Jay, Remington Rand Plant 1; George Meadows, Betty Van Wiggeren, Plant 2, and Thelma Denton, Ilion Hospital.
