Ilion Day BY Day by John Anonymous - Halloween

....

The fact is that after we left Miss Gordon's on Halloween we wandered over to Mohawk to see their parade. It was good. And then Frankfort had one also. That was ditto. But what with one thing and another and not having any kind friends to tell us where we lived we just went on and on ... Wonder if L. S. R. has found out where he lives yet ... Which makes us think of a story ...

....

Not to change the subject or anything ... On Halloween we being a little blind and of course dumb though not vocally, went along with about 100 other Ilionites our age, (that's one on's you, we really are a kid, and for that person muttering Baa! Baa!, we have only haughty indifference) went looking for the parade the Kiwanis have sponsored on this night in years past, but although we scoured the town, we couldn't find anything in the shape of a parade except us. We consoled ourselves however. We went up to Miss Ruth Gordon's for jelly buns and apples, ummm good, and just in passing, we saw quite a few older kids too who haven't forgotten the way to Elm Street or Miss Gordon's well-known hospitality on Halloween ...There, were over 300 this time.
