Memorial Trophy Awarded to Soldier Senior At the closing ceremony of Ilion high school last Friday, the Rocky Cramer Memorial Trophy was awarded Robert Day, who is now in the armed forces at Fort Bragg, N. Carolina, and the Varsity Club Trophy was presented to Theodore Armstrong, a junior. The presentations were made by J. Guy Prindle, principal. Private Day's award to given to the senior who has had satisfactory work during the school year, has shown abilities for leadership, exceptional ability in all physical education activities, possesses high qualities of sound living, participated in at least two intramural activities and has won a varsity letter in a major sport sometime during his high school course. The Varsity Club Trophy is given for sportsmanship, perseverance and satisfactory school work. It is awarded to the "unsung hero" who has been on one or more athletic squads. The purpose of the trophy is to maintain a higher level of sportsmanship in Ilion high school and to reward the boy whose loyal efforts may have been previously been overlooked. Mr. Prlndle spoke to the seniors telling them that they must have real determination to take their places in the world today with the boys who are coming back from military training, and stressed the importance of gaining high ratings during regents week. Earl P. Watkin, superintendent pf schools, also addressed the class wishing them success and good luck. He expressed his appreciation to the faculty for, their work during the past year and wished success and happiness to those who will not be returning in the fall.
