H. S. Seniors' Work Praised

Final assembly of the school year was held at Ilion high school last Friday, and addressed by Principal J. Guy Prindle and Superintendent Earl P. Watkin.

Prindle advised seniors to maintain a record of good scholarship and prepare themselves for the lives they must lead in the period following the war.

He added that many boys who never would have gone to college are going to have a better future due to immediate service as the training will be valuable when the activities are over.

He said 64 of 100 high school graduates last year ware invited into specialized training, while this year 88 of 100 will go into special fields.

He had told them previously: "Of the 23 classes which I have seen march down the aisle on the last day of school, none can compare with this class - not in scholarship or in all around activity - but in the responsibility they face in the immediate future."

Superintendent Watkin gave advice to those seniors who are about to enter military service. He termed the zoot suit fraceses the vices about training camps are real sabotage, rather than just quarrels, and urged the young men to avoid such things when they are servicemen.

Two sportsmanship awards were made at the assembly. The Rocky Cramer Memorial trophy went to the senior whose leadership in physical education activities, plus earning a major sports letter, and general popularity, resulted in his being chosen. Bernard Tracy was the recipient.

The Varsity Club trophy is popularly known as the Unsung Hero award, going to the youth with perseverance, maintenance of training rules and high level of sportsmanship which make him worthy of award. Louis Sheffield, a senior, received it.
