Dr. Robert Luke, An Ilion Optometrist

ILION - Dr Robert A. Luke, 66, Ilion optometrist, of 1 Second Ave., died yesterday in Mohawk Valley General Hospital after a short illness.

He was born Oct. 7. 1907 in Ilion, the son of Edwin and Mabel Hammond Luke. He married Elizabeth Brennan on July 2, 1930 in Holland Patent. He was educated in Ilion schools and was a graduate of the University of Rochester.

Dr. Luke was a member of the Church of the Annunciation. He was past president of the Ilion Board of Education and a vice president of the Ilion Savings and Loan Association.

He was a member of the Ilion Volunteer Department Co. 1. past president of the Community Club and a member of the Little Theatre Club, the Ilion Elks Lodge, the Optometric Association and president of the Balsam Flatts Hunting Club. He had been chairman of the American Red Cross during World War II.

He had first been affiliated with his father in optometry and then practiced by himself.

Besides his widow, he leaves one son, Lt. Com Robert A. Luke, of California; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Diane) Getman, Silver Springs, Md.; one brother, Alan, Schenectady, and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 9 a m. Monday from Whiter Hendrix Funeral Home and at 9:30 from the Church of the Annunciation. Burial will be in Armory Hill Cemetery.

Calling hours are 7 to 9 tomorrow and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Members of the Ilion Volunteer Fire Department will meet at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
