Msgr. Thomas Scott, Native of Ilion, Dies LITTLE FALLS - The Rt. Rev. Monsignor Thomas K. Scott, V.F., 71, pastor emeritus of St. Mary's Church, died suddenly last night at Speculator, where he was vacationing. Father Scott was born June 25, 1903, in Ilion, the son of the late William and Anna Kearney Scott. He was a graduate of the Ilion High School Class of 1920. He served at St. Mary's from April, 1959 until June, 1969, when he retired as pastor, but continued in residence as pastor emeritus at the rectory. Prior to St. Mary's he served at St. Michael's, Troy and served with the U.S. Navy from which he was discharged as a Lt. Commander. Father Scott served various churches in Albany. Father Scott's military service included 21 months of overseas U.S. Navy service aboard the aircraft Sangamon, which saw action in the Gilberts, Carolines, New Guinea and Saipan. He was the only chaplain for 1,200 men. He also served the Jacksonville, Fla., Naval Air Station. Prior to his military service, Father Scott served as a Civilian Conservation Corps chaplain for all CCC camps in the northern part of the state. He is survived by two brothers, William, of Ilion, and Francis, of Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Elix) Swanson, of Ilion, Mrs. Edmund (Loretta) deMars, Amsterdam; two nieces, five nephews and several cousins. A Concelebrated Mass will be held at 11 a m., Thursday at St. Mary's Church, Little Falls, with Most Rev. Edward Broderick, bishop of the Albany Diocese, as principal celebrant. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Agnes Cemetery. Other arrangements by the Sheehan Funeral Home are incomplete.
