Interesting Events of the Commencement Season - The Class Play Was Presented - And the Names of Those Who 'Passed' the Awful Regents Ilion Has Reason to be proud of its Schools With the close of another school year, Ilion again reviews its educational facilities and again congratulates itself upon its good educational showing. It has come to be accepted as a matter of course that Ilion schools are of the highest grade. We have had exceptionally good management of the schools by the capable and efficient Board of Education and Messrs. Richardson, Sumner and Rasbach deserve the appreciation and sincere thanks of the entire community; their capable management is at the bottom of all the success of the schools. During the year, a change of principals was taken place and Prof. Warren after a period of most efficient superintendency was succeeded a few weeks ago by Prof. H. M. Schwartz who is taking up the work with marked satisfaction to all concerned. During all the changes in superintendents, Miss Douglas, preceptress of the High school, remains at her post serving the school with an effectiveness which elicits the deep wrath of the students, the undivided approval of the graduates and the high admiration of the patrons of the school. It is one of the most fortunate features of our school live we have been able to retain the services of the preceptress so widely recognized as one of the best disciplinarians and most successful instructors in the state. It would be a pleasure if adjectives and space permitted to speak in detail of the merit of each individual teacher; they are capable of teaching force and everyone deserves individual mention for their good work; they are well maintaining the high reputation the Ilion schools have achieved in the past. Those Who 'Passed Regents' . . . A Splendid Showing In the High school there were examined 567 papers of which 533 were accepted by the several teachers. These are subject to review at Albany. Baccalaureate Sermon The Baccalaureate sermon was preached at the Methodist Church Sunday evening in the presence of a union congregation of the Methodist, Baptists, and Presbyterian churches by Rev. S. J. Greenfield: Mr. Greenfield's subject was "True Ambition"; the discourse was a strong logical and eloquent address and was justly heard with great pleasure. Class Night The class of 1912 took Monday evening for its own individual night and at 7:45 p.m. loud cries in the vicinity of the Grand Opera House of 'Rickety, Stickety, Wickety, Hickety, O Squash Where Did I Put my Gum,' indicated that that was the place and that the trouble had begun. The theatre was prettily decorated in the class colors, presenting a charming sight. The music was furnished under the direction of Miss Dema Perkins.
