T. W. Schmidt, Ilion, Succumbs Ilion - Theodore W. Schmidt, 56, a native or this village, former mayor of Ilion and former publisher of the Ilion Citizen, died Thursday morning at his hone, Columbia Parkway, this village, after a long illness. Mr. Schmidt was born in this village, June 1, 1978, son of the late John V. and Catherine Selbert Schmidt. He attended Ilion schools and later was graduated from Rochester Business Institute. Following his graduation from school, he was employed at the Ilion Post office for several years. He then engaged in the real estate and insurance business with his brother, Attorney Frank Schmidt. He married Nellie Truman, this village in 1902. In 1921 he purchased the Ilion Citizen, local weekly newspaper, which he edited for 13 years. He also published the Herkimer County News, Little Falls, a weekly for two years. In 1920 he was elected president of the village. For the past two years he had been connected with the Elan Realty Company, Utica, He was a member of St. Augustine's church, Ilion, Ilion Lodge 891, F. & A. M.; Knights Templar, Royal Arch Masons, Ilion lodge of Elks. He leaves besides his wife, two daughters, Mrs. R. B. Conley, Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. A. J. Switzer, Mt. Morris; two sisters, Mrs. R. W. Warner and Mrs. Noel Bennet, both of Albany three brothers, Dr. Robert Schmidt, Elmira; F. A. Schmidt and Wilhelm Schmidt, both of Ilion; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. from the late home with Rev. L. R. Benson officiating.
