Old Ilion Residence Will Be Demolished

Ilion - Another old Ilion landmark is soon to pass with the tearing down of the Benton residence on Armory Hill.

Tom Benton, original owner, was a sub-contractor in the early days of Remington Arms and the home was erected - at about the same time as the Remington mansion, razed some years ago.

Much of the woodwork is of carved mahogany and the lower rooms have marble fireplaces. Other fittings are indicative of the elegance that was Ilion's a century ago.

Salvage work is in charge of Joe Sanders, who says the house will be open to visitors for the next two weeks .
