![]() Daniel James Burling - IHS 1965 - PharmacistDaniel Burling was born January 11, 1947. He graduated from Ilion High school in 1965. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and earned several decorations and awards. He was a licensed pilot and aircraft mechanic and was the airport manager at Nellis Airport in Fort Plain in 1972. In 1976, he graduated from the Empire State Military Academy. He received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve. He later graduated from HCCC in 1977 and then graduated from the University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy in 1980. He became a state-registered pharmacist. He is president and owner of Burling Drug, Inc. which had a location in Attica (1987–1996) and another in Corfu (1991–present). He also was an intern and staff pharmacist at Genesee Memorial Hospital and a consulting pharmacist at the Genesee County Nursing Home in Batavia. He was inducted into the Herkimer County Community College Alumni Association Hall of Fame on March 11, 2000. He is the first HCCC alumnus elected to state office. He was a member of the Genesee County Legislature from 1993 until 1998. He was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 1998. Daniel was elected to the 147th Assembly seat and received 62 percent of the vote. His district includes parts or all of Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, Allegheny, Cattaragus and Erie counties. He won the November 2008 general election with 71 percent of the vote. He ran uncontested in the November 2010 general election. He did not seek reelection in 2012. Daniel Burling is married to the former Jean Dunckel of Ilion. They reside in the Town of Alexander. They have a daughter, Mary, a son, David and two grandchildren.
