Two High Schools say goodbye to an era
Ilion, N.Y. (WKTV) - Tonight marks the end of an era for Mohawk and Ilion Central School District. The two high schools graduating seniors walked to receive their diplomas for the last time as Ilion Bombers and Mohawk Mohican's. The school districts will merge come July 1st and transform into Central Valley Academy. Lindsey LeClair, a senior from Mohawk said she is thrilled to be part of the last class. "I think we all feel a sense of pride towards it were the last group coming from the school... its cool." Cordell Stafford said he is happy to be one of the last "bombers." "It feels honoring, it feels good." Pat Rhyde, a special education teacher at Mohawk and also the senior advisor for the last 17 years said its important for the kids to be excited for what is yet to come. "I am not one for change, I am an old farm girl and am not one for change... but I also saw the kids needed more and I am very excited for them to have more."
