Mohawk School Names Austin Hess As Coach

MOHAWK - Austin Hess was named head of the Mohawk Central School boys physical education department to succeed Lloyd Baker at a meeting of the Central School Board of Education last night.

Baker has accepted a position it Oneonta High School. Hess, already on the school faculty for one year, is a 1942 graduate of Ilion High School and spent three years in the Army. He was graduated in 1949 from Cortland Teachers College, and was with the Veterans Administration from 1949 to 1953 as physical reconditioning Instructor. From 1953 to 1955, he was coach at King's Ferry, N. Y.

Hess will coach football, basketball and baseball. Named as his assistant was Robson Ellis, a June graduate of Brockport State Teachers College. A graduate of Monroe High School, Rochester, Ellis spent some time in service. At Brockport, he played varsity football for four pears. He will assist in football at Mohawk and coach varsity wrestling and tennis.

The board also named Mrs. Julia Rolling, Ilion, as girls physical education instructor. A graduate of West Virginia, she received her master's degree from New York University. She is married and the mother of two children.
