Ilion School Head Expects Total 1937 Registration Will Reach 1,800

Watkin Anticipates Normal High School Enrollment Tuesday

Expected Decline Offset by New Village Residents - Office Practice Course to Be Started

Ilion - Attendance at Ilion schools this fall is expected to be at least 1,800 with a possibility of going higher, according to an estimate by by Earl P. Watkin, superintendent.

Enrollment fluctuates slightly at all schools with the exception of school of the Annunciation which averages about 320 each term.

Registration at West Hill be probably be between 350 and 400. North Street School between 350 and 370. Estimated attendance at the high school is 800.

They were warned of the fire by a neighbor, James Bala, 14 Bridge St., who spotted flames shooting from a front second floor window.

Fear that enrollment at the high school would show a decrease this fall is lessened because of an unexpected increase in the number of pupils registered from families recently moved to the village.

Light Session Slated

Schools open officially Tuesday morning but most of the day will be needed for organization work. Pupils will probably be excused after registering.

There will be a meeting of public school faculties at the high school in the morning. Later they will hold separate meetings. Registrations at West Hill and North Street begin at 1:13.

Students of the parochial school will report Tuesday morning for registration. Instruction attendance will be given.

Superintendent Watkin and Principal J. G. Prindle express enthusiasm over the new office practice course which begins at the high school.

Utican Engaged

As instructor they have engaged Miss Mary Salamey, Utica, with eight years practical office experience. She will be associated with Genevieve Ruby who will conduct a class in secretarial work.

All machines used in secretarial work will be used in the new course. Included is a unique machine called a variotyper. Six type faces of different sizes and styles can be used for school publications as well as stencils and mimeograph work.

Added to these machines will be a intmehgraph mimmescope, ditto machine, filling equipment, cash register, two Burroughs calculating machines, & Monroe calculator, Remington Rand adding machine and Burroughs adding machine. Purchase of the comptometers or two or more Burroughs calculators will be made.

Although classes in physical training at the high school will register at once the gymnasium will not open until next week.
