Ilion Priest Ordained at Albany Today

ILION - Rev. Donald L. Brothers, son of Fred Brothers. Herkimer, and the late Mrs. Margaret McCabe Brothers, was among 32 men ordained to the priesthood of the Roman Catholic Church in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Albany, today.

Twenty two became priests of the Albany diocese forming the largest class of candidates for diocesan service in this century. In addition, 10 Friars of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual Black Franciscans: from St. Anthony-on-Hudson were ordained.

The Most Rev. William A. Scully, bishop of the diocese, was the ordaining prelate. It was pointed out actually the diocese will have 28 new priests next fall.

Besides the 32 ordained in Albany today, four seminarians from Ireland will come to Albany following their ordination in their country next month, and two from Rome will return to this country are completing studies priests ordained in December in.

Father Brothers, a native of Gloversville, attended North St. School and graduated from Ilion High School. He prepared for the priesthood at St, Francis College, Brooklyn, and St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore, Md.

He will celebrate his first solemn high Mass at 11:45 a.m tomorrow in Annunciation Church. Serving as high priest will be Rev. Gregory Mulhall, pastor, with Rev. Joseph Barry and Rev. George Phillips as subdeacons.
