Rome Worden Dies, Former Ilion Mayor

ILION - Rome D. Worden, 86, of 57 West St., former Ilion mayor, died yesterday in the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home.

He was born May 2,1887 in Whitesboro, son of Arthur and Delphine Fitch Worden, and was graduated from Ilion High School in 1905. He was graduated from Hamilton College in 1909. He had lived in Ilion for 83 years.

He married Lilliam [Lucille is the correct name] Burch on June 30, 1914. She died in 1938.

Mr. Worden was employed by the Library Bureau Division of Sperry Rand, for 15 years held several executive positions, and was also plant manager. He had owned an insurance business in the village since 1928.

He was village mayor in 1924-25 and was a member of the Ilion Board of Education for six years. He was also a member of the Ilion Hospital Board of Managers and was active in many local movements including the Chamber of Commerce and Welfare.

He was a member of the Utica Rotary Club and the board of directors of the Utica Fire Insurance Co..

Mr. Worden was a member of the board of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Utica.

He had been a stamp collector, associated with the B.J.'s Antiques and Rugs.

He leaves two cousins, G. Gilbert Morrison, Clinton, and Mrs. Maxine Abbott, Cleveland, Ohio.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday from the Applegate Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sauquoit Valley Cemetery, Clayville.
