FACULTY AND STAFF APPOINTMENTSMr. Jonathan Cole has been appointed to serve as a Junior-Senior High School Mathematics Teacher. During the 1997-1998 school year, his primary assignment will be Junior High Mathematics. Mr. Cole received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of New Hampshire with a major in Secondary Education Mathematics. Mr. Cole enjoys reading, skiing, hunting, golf, athletics and coaching. Mr. Mark Gedeon has been appointed to the position of Junior-Senior High School Science Teacher. For the 1997-1998 school year, Mr. Gedeon will primarily be responsible for teaching Regents Earth Science and Earth Science Labs. Mr. Gedeon earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Buffalo State College with a major in Earth Science Secondary Education. He enjoys serving as an advisor to student clubs and organizations. Mr. Gedeon is a competitive swimmer and enjoys playing volleyball and soccer. Mr. Michael King has been appointed to the position of Junior-Senior High School Social Studies Teacher. For the 1997-1998 school year, his primary responsibility will be Junior High Social Studies. Mr. King attended Elmira College and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Social Studies, Secondary Education in 1995. Mr. King's teaching experience includes being a museum teacher at the New York State Historical Association in Cooperstown and serving as the student assistant basketball coach for the Elmira College women's basketball program. Ms. Suzanne Myers has been appointed to the position of Junior-Senior High School Social Studies Teacher. Her primary assignment for the 1997-1998 school year will be ninth grade, Global Studies 1, and tenth grade, Global Studies 11. Ms. Myers received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from SUNY Geneseo, with a major in Political Science. In addition, she earned a Master of Science Degree in Education in May 1997. She knows her content area well and believes strongly in making connections between social studies and the students' lives. She enjoys being involved with student activities, swimming, traveling, reading and hiking. Ms. Krisanne Hailey has been appointed as a long-term substitute teacher to replace Mr. Vail while he is on a one-semester leave of absence. Her primary assignment will be teaching four sections of U.S. History and Government and one section of sociology. Ms. Hailey earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Buffalo State College with a major in Secondary Social Studies Education. Ms. Hailey has a minor in Art History. Ms. Haileys teaching experience includes serving as a staff member for the TEEN Leadership and Creative Problem Solving Institute of Buffalo and assistant camp director for the Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club. She enjoys swimming, literary works, and art history. Mr. James Grove has been appointed to the position of Junior-Senior High School English Teacher. His primary assignment will be teaching four sections of Regents English and one section of Advanced Placement English Literature. Mr. Grove received a Bacelor of Arts Degree with majors in English and history in May 1995 and he completed his Master of Arts Degree in 1996 at the University of Albany majoring in Secondary English Education. He enjoys the humanities, radio broadcasting, reading, drama, film study, soccer, and basketball.
Alumnus Returns as Student TeacherThis fall, Barringer Road School welcomes a student teacher from the State University of New York at Oneonta. Working with Mrs. Anderson's third grade class will be Miss Courtney Burger. Miss Burger is a 1993 graduate of the Ilion Jr./Sr. High School, received her Associate's Degree from HCCC, and after graduating from Oneonta, plans to attend the College of St. Rose to obtain her Masters Degree.
