Plans are under way for the 1999 Ilion Days Doo Dah Parade. The theme this year honors the 100th Aniversary of the founding of the Ilion Board of Light. Co-sponsors for the parade are the Ilion branch of Herkimer County Trust and Stewart's.
Various civic organizations, such as The Ilion Olive Branch Masonic Lodge 40, The Knights of Columbus Council 518 and the American Legion are planning fundraisers to provide financing for marching bands to appear in the parade. This year's parade will include the 10th Mountain Division Band, the Red Band, Ziyara Drum and Bugle Corps, New York Ragtime Band and the Mohawk Valley Frasers. Other bands and anyone else interested in appearing in the parade can call Mrs. Janet Darling at 315-894-8852, for further details.
Remember, the parade features wacky and wild entrants
... the crazier the better!
* - Candy throwing by parade participates will not be allowed in the 1999 parade. This ruling resulted due to the dangers of children running out in front of vehicles and horses to retrieve the candy. At the end of the parade, there will be several clowns handing out candy at the bandshell in Eckerds parking lot and a huge, candy filled, pinata provided by the Ilion Board of Light.
The 1998 Princess Pageant Winner - Amy Zennamo.
