All canoeists under 18 must have
release signed by parent/guardian. Children from 5 to 14 must be accompanied by an adult
(over 21) or a parent. No one under 5 years old is eligible.
Each entry is a two-person team in either one of the following two categories/classes:
OPEN (anything goes) MIXED (opposite sex)
There is a $5 registration fee per team, per each trial. Teams may enter any number
of times to upgrade their standing.
The total race is a half mile course, with 1/4 mile out, around a buoy and return
1/4 mile. The race will begin and end at the same location.
The course will be laid out by the Northern New York Paddlers and has been sanctioned
with the United States Canoe Association.
A stop watch will be used to time sprints. A Results Board will be kept by the
committee. The top team in each category will be named to compete in the "Finale" to
be held in Canajoharie on August 21, 1999.
The winners in both categories - OPEN and MIXED will be presented with handsome
medallions.

Winners go on as Ilion's entry in 'The Mohawk Cup' Race - August 21 at Canajoharie
The grand finale on August 21 will be a 1/2 mile RACE. The names of the teams will
be drawn for canoe competition using two identical canoes. This will be an
actual race situation with winners of local sprints rowing against each other.
The magnificent MOHAWK CUP, a gift of Oneida Silver, will be awarded to the grand
winners and will stay in their community until next year.
