Half IHS Grads Will Continue

ILION - Taking seriously the current emphasis on education beyond high school are 86 of the 175 June graduates of Ilion High School, or almost half the class.

Four year colleges have been the choice of 56 of the graduates, with almost half, 27, choosing the education being offered in units of the State University of New York. The state college system had room for only 25,000 freshmen out of 70,000 applicants.

Private colleges in New York State are being attended by 16 of the group and 13 out-of-state.

The graduates and four-year schools they are enrolled in are: David Abeling, Buffalo State; Rick Albin, University of Rochester; Suzanne Backman, University of Rochester; Fred Barker, Oswego; Robert Bluett, Ithaca; Ronald Bluett, Clarkson; Sharon Bradle, Oswego; Kenneth Brown, Syracuse University Forestry School; Linda Brown, St. Lawrence; Bridget Carney, Vassar.

Two-year colleges will be attended by 27 graduates. Mohawk Valley Community College will have 11 of the group as students. They are: Robert Barham, Dawn Egleston, J. Farnham, Marshall Hardy, Zeda Humphrey, Robert Klippel, Charles Leniek, Nancy Parker, William Rathbun, Marjorie Reid, Timothy Stalloch.

Bob Bouton and Jack Valent will take accounting and agriculture respectively, at Morrisville. Jane Lacey and Denny Weiss will pursue courses at Dutchess County Community College.

Studying to be a dental hygienist at Farmingdale, on L. I., will be Annetta Rota. Beverly Miller will pursue a secretarial course at Mt. Ida near Boston and Robert Failing a business course at Chamberlayne in Boston.

Nursing studies have been selected by Frances Canning, training at Marcy, Miss Backman, Miss Egleston and Miss Custer.

Court reporting is the choice of Melody Cagwin, who will enter Johnson and Wales Junior College, Providence, R. I.

Albany Business College will be seeing Charlene Schierholtz, Bob Ruszala and Sandra Santmire.

Business courses are also the choice of Norma Smith and Grace LaPuma, CCBI; Elaine Duminy and Bronny Hamilton, Utica School of Commerce.

Linda Fischer and Sheila Fancher are enrolled in the Utica School of Beauty Culture. Michele Simmons is planning to attend the Germaine School of Photography, New York City.

Four of the seniors decided on a civil service career in Washington: Elaine Hall, Sharon Petavs, Carol Pozniak, Eileen Strait.

The Armed Services will be the choice of Herb Nason, David Sprague, Joseph Boulia, J. Nehr, J. Watts, R. Sterling, Gint Reider.

At last count, eight seniors had secured employment and 33 were still looking.
