Ilion High Informative - By Suzanne Backman

Greeted by colorful native girls, approximately 100 couples will enter the world of "Aloha Hawaii" tonight. The Hawaiian atmosphere was chosen as the theme for tonight's Junior Prom. This theme was created by Gertrude Lucey and she, Carla Braun, and Dick Janis are co-chairmen. Music for the affair, to begin at 9 o'clock, will be provided by Al Carm and his orchestra.

Couples will enter the gymnasium through a grass hut and numerous native girls will present each person with an Hawaiian leis.

Next to demand attention will be the centerpiece - a desert island complete with palm trees and sandy beach.

At 12 o'clock, the queen of the Prom will be crowned by last year's queen, Pam Dauten.

The work has been completed under the advise of Miss Phyllis Cipolla and Mr. Constantine Panarites, class advisors.

At 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening, past and present members of the National Junior Honor Society celebrated the 30th anniversary of the founding of Ilion's chapter. Guest speakers included Mr. Leo Sammon, Jr., the present principal of IHS; Mr. Baker, a past principal; Mr. George Anderson, superintendent of schools; Mr. George Purple, and Miss Mary Panarites. Vocal selections were given by the Boys' Barbershop Quartet. Marsha Davidson played "Annie Laurie" on the harp.

In the afternoon, new members were inducted into the Society. From seventh grade are Stephen Applegate, Mary Ann Bonvino, Timothy Murphy, Suzanne Southwick, Deborah Valentine, and Jeanne Williams. From the eighth grade are Susan Braren, Priscilla Brynes, Barbara Deyle, Susan Newman, Robert Pasek, Joe Pelletier, Marcia Radley, Bob Service, and Pat Sheffield.

Inducted by the ninth grade were Mary Falzareno, Sharon Lozier, Linda Pugh, Gary Wood, and Carol Woolver. Representing tenth grade were Mary Crossett, Theresa DeForrest, and Kathleen Maurice.

Special assemblies were held on Thursday to present plays put on by the English Department and the Senior National Honor Society. In the morning, the seniors presented an excerpt from "Cyrano de Bergerac." Also, the juniors offered scenes from "Our Town" by Thornton Wilder.

In the afternoon, the sophomores presented "Oklahoma" and the freshmen offered excerpts from "Zeus."

Yesterday, the Belles Girls Ensemble performed in competition in Oneonta. Several instrumental soloists also attended this program.
