Ilion High students got back into high gear this week after a long vacation.

On Wednesday evening the regular meeting of the IHS Student Council met, presided over by the president, Dan McGrellis. The main business of the meeting was the making of final arrangements for the upcoming Student Council elections. The Gold and Brown Parties will be managed by Bill Miles, Bob Schneider, Judy Gray, and Sue Getman.

On Friday the four campaign managers ran class meetings of the junior and sophomore classes. Dan McGrellis ran the freshman class meeting. At these meetings, candidates for the Student Council offices were nominated.

Members of the Latin Club met on Wednesday evening at 6:15. Instead of the usual business meeting, this week the group held a Roman-style bingo game. It was quite a test of latin pronunciation and vocabulary.

On Tuesday rehearsal of Orpheus Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Jasmine Poplaski was held. The group has been preparing to enter competition to be held at Proctor High School on May 14. On May 22, The Belles girls group will enter competition at Oneonta.

On Thursday the IHS baseball team topped Norwich for its third straight win. Paced by Boots Day, Ilion downed Norwich 8 to 1. Members of the Senior National Honor Society met on Wednesday and Friday of this week to plan their activities for the remainder of the year. A bake sale at school next week will be sponsored by the group, according to Rick Albin, president.

On Friday a Senior Class meeting was held to discuss further senior activities. The senior class picnic was the main topic. It is to be held on either June 1 or 4 at Green Lake.

Other activities such as Dress Down Day, senior assembly, and commencement were discussed.

Ilion High School seniors will take over village government offices in observance of Youth Day, according to Diana Withington, senior class president. Village attorney will be Bob Schneider and Rick Albin will be fire chief. Bill Cornell will serve as village clerk and Karen Custer as deputy village clerk. Bridget Carney will be water commissioner and Judy Gray street superintendent.

George Rolling has been selected as treasurer, Mary Jean McGrath as public works commissioner, and Sue Backman as historian. Public health nurse will be Donna Vandawalker while Nancy Walker will act as finance commissioner and Kathy Hoffman as police chief.

Jane Lacy was selected as police desk lieutenant, Sue Getman is public librarian, and Paul Thomas is electric manager. Bob DeMartine will be head of the sanitation department Bill Miles, village engineer; Joanne Urtz, police commissioner; Patty Runge, police judge; Greg Patrol, fire commissioner; Diana Withington, mayor.
