Ilion High Informative - By Suzanne Backman Excitement ran high last night when the Golden Bombers traveled to Frankfort to face the Maroon Knights. Ilion went into the game with a remote chance at winning the Iroquois League championship. Ilion won its last league game on Friday, Jan. 29, against Hekimer, 56-46. Last Saturday the Ilion winter sports team lost to Herkimer, 3-1. Ilion's pingpong team won all the possible points, but the volleyball team lost three games and won two in dropping its match to Herkimer. The bowling and badminton teams both were downed by Herkimer. According to President Richard Albin, the Senior National Honor Society has set a tentative date for their annual dramatic production put on with the cooperation of the English Department. Members of the Society plan to present a history of drama on May 7 and 8. Ten new members have been elected to the Varsity Club. President Bob Schneider announced the acceptance of Bob Turley, Jim Colburn, Rod Lewis, Bill Miles, George Rolling, Steve Castle, Jeff Stephenson, Terry Braren, Dave Steele and Gary Brewery. At the January meeting of the Latin Chib, more plans for the annual Latin Dinner were made. Bill Cornell and Rick Albin were chosen as chairmen of the dinner. The date and place are, as yet, indefinite; but it will be held around the Ides of March, March 15, to commemorate the death of Julius Caesar. One of Ilion's senior girls, Sue Getman, won second place in the local Elks Youth Leadership Contest. Sue competed against several students from the valley high schools and was awarded the $10 prize. The Ilion High Student Council met Wednesday, Feb. 3. Plans for the candy sale were again discussed. When the business meeting was completed, Ilion High's foreign exchange student, Hashim Makkawi, again answered some questions of the Council members. Many more Ilion High seniors have been accepted at colleges. Bev Miller has been accepted at Mount Ida Junior College; Don Spedding at Morrisville Technical Institute; Judy Gray at Plattsburg State University. Accepted at Oswego State University were. Joanne Urtz and Ron Parshall. Dan McGrellis was accepted at LaSalle University; Bridget Carney at Syracuse University; and Karen Custer was accepted at Albany State University.
