Ilion Elementary School Okayed By 1,126-178 ILION - Parents attending the fourth meeting of the Parents Action Committee last night voted to rescind a parents' ban on bermuda shorts for teenagers for summer months at dances. About 50 parents attended the meeting in the Municipal Building, about half arriving after the vote had been taken. Of the 25 present at that time, 20 favored rescinding the ban, five cast negative votes. The parents' ban had been voted at the June 1 meeting, with those attending voicing the opinion youths should dress more formally for a social gathering. Since then, teen-agers sought to get parents to support their stand, as one teen-ager wrote in the current issue of the Ilion High School student newspaper. Last night about 15 teen-agers, invited to attend, stated through a spokesman. Nicholas Maneen, McGowan Rd., that they found the dancehalls hot and stuffy in the summer and could relax more in shorts. The parents cast their affirmative vote after about 45 minutes discussion. In other business, the committee approved a letter that will be sent to all parents outlining the teen-age drinking problem, asking their support in any action taken in the future. It will be mailed out soon. The new committee, formed to bring about a code of behavior at teen-age dances, also named three committees, as follows: nominating, Mrs. Douglas Bullis, chairman; behavior, Mrs. Merle Lewis, chairman; teen - age drinking, Richard Brown, chairman. H. E. Whittemore, temporary chairman, presided at the session. Next meeting was set for 7:30 p.m. July 20.
