October 13, 2003 Ilion - Patrick J. Carney, age 51, a resident of New York City, formerly of Ilion, passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, in New York, following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Patrick was born Oct. 17, 1951, in Syracuse, son of the late Dr. Theodore R. and Mary Margaret (McArdell) Carney. He attended school at Annunciation, and was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and received his bachelor of arts degree at Manhattan College. Patrick was currently employed by the Human Resources Administration, City of New York. Prior to that he was employed by the IRS, Weikart Tax Service and was an independent tax and finance planner. He was of the Roman Catholic faith.

Survivors include his mother, Mary M. Carney of Ilion; his sisters, Bridget and her husband Herbert Goddard of Rhinebeck, Kathleen and her husband Peter Donahue of Ilion, Mary and her husband Michael Houlihan of Illinois, Roberta Haefele and Aileen Sweeney, both of Ilion and Erin and her husband William Monahan of Fairport; his brothers, Shawn Carney and his wife Gail of Ilion and Theodore Carney of Utica; his nieces and nephews, Morgan Goddard-Friedman, Thatcher Goddard, Paul, Mark, Katherine and Sarah Donahue, William and Padraic Houlihan, Lauren and Alison Haefele, Mary, Bridget, Erin and Sean Sweeney, Timothy and Michael Monahan, Steven and Catherine Carney.

He was predeceased by his father, Dr. Carney in 1967. On Thursday, Oct. 16, at noon a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Patrick at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, with Father Joseph Benintende, pastor.

Family and friends are also invited to attend Patrick's graveside committal service Saturday, commencing at 10 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. There are no calling hours. In lieu of floral offerings those wishing to do so may consider memorial contributions in Patrick's name to the American Lung Association or the Miracle Home. Donation envelopes are available at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home or at the services.
